Updated: Feb 3

At Iowa State, the fall semester means the development of your three-piece Senior Design Line! I'm excited to begin creating my collection now that I've completed the research portion, as seen below. I will upload my progress until my completed garment photoshoot in December 2024.

Look One Completed

This matching set features a fully lined jacket with an oversized peter pan collar using the fashion fabric and a lace layer underneath. That same scalloped lace is adorning the cuffs. These antique buttons are all different to contribute to the vintage, well-loved feel. I chose a mini skort design to accommodate curvy bodies better, ensuring women of all sizes can be on trend but still comfortable in a wearable garment. I'm very pleased with how this look turned out and felt like I got a deeper understanding of performing fittings throughout the process and therefore expanding my technical design skills.

Look Two Completed

This knit little black dress is elevated by white topstitching along the princess seams and lace sleeve details. I think I'm going to go back in and add a small lace Peter Pan collar to add more cohesion to the other looks. On the inside, it's finished with a facing and an invisible zipper. I love the simplicity of the garment and how I've translated my concept into it.

Look Three Completed

This coat has to be my favourite piece in the collection, I feel it encapsulates the charm and warmth of mod british style. This fully lined wool coat also feautures the same layered peter pan collar as look one. Since the photoshoot, I have added side and back beltloops and a thick waistband to sinch the waist as well as hide the back waist seam and make it look neater. I've also made a matching mini skirt to add to the look for the Iowa State Fashion Show in April.

End of Semester Photos

I'm so proud of my growth this semester. A goal I always have for myself is to make the interior as pretty as the exterior, so I pushed myself to focus on the lining, interfacing, and facing of my garments. Over winter break, I have taken the time to really fine tune my designs and construction for The Fashon Show. I'm happy with what I made under the strict deadlines and time constraints. I feel that gave me a good understanding of the pace of things in the industry. I can't believe I've hit this Iowa State milestone already. I'm so excited for what lies ahead this spring semester leading up to graduation!
